Default Final Fantasy X International help please!

ok, so ffx is an old favorite of mine, but i sold my ps2 n everything a while back. so anyways, i bought a ps2 off a friend for $20, the american version of ffx, and have been happy.

but now i hear about ffx international, new skills, dark aeon battles, good stuff. so i bought it online on playasia(.)com
it should arrive at my house within the week.

but as i did more research, i find out that the Japanese version (that i bought, its all in english so thats why i got it) can only be played on a modified or japan version PS2?!?

anyone know what the deal is?
did i waste $40 on the game?
is it just a rumor?
or is there a cheap and simple mod i can do to my ps2?

thanks all

ps. i know the game hasnt arrived yet, so i might be scared for nuthin, but just incase i figured id ask asap so i can get this figured out and get to playing!

Well, the International version is certainly very different - completely new Sphere Grid setup that basically lets you take whoever down whatever path from the start. Plus the higher strength Dark Aeons like Anima and Bahamut - not to mention Penance - are just ridiculous. But, I don't own International, a friend of mine does. Therefore I might be wrong on this but I believe there are multiple regional versions of it, such as a European one, a Japan one, and such. If you got a version that's Japan coded, you would have to either get a Japanese PS2 or mod it.

As for how to mod, I'm not the one to ask.

The international version is the same as EU PAL version, it featured content not available in the original NTSC US released. Inter version is Jap only, so you'll need a mod or swap disc ps2 to play on your us ps2.
